Collision of Rhythm

Collision of Rhythm (Showcase A1): Collision of Rhythm is what happens when you combine an elite tap dancing percussionist/piano/marimba virtuoso with a master vocal/percussionist/instrumentalist/juggler! Bronkar and Aaron are multiple world-record holders, achieving national notoriety with their featured performances on The Tonight Show & America's Got Talent and their individual viral videos (currently over 300 million views combined). The synergy between these two performers is palpable, and they are continually challenging each other to push the limits of their individual talents. The “sweet spot” for Collision of Rhythm is their performances for youth/family audiences. In 2020, they secured one of the coveted full-length (one hour) juried showcases at the IPAY (International Performing Arts for Youth) Conference in Philadelphia at the Kimmel Center, and the response to that showcase was off the charts. Their performances are perfect for youth audiences of all ages in that they engage and energize these audiences with their mind-boggling talents while simultaneously imparting a sense of positivity that is so desperately needed in today’s world. Described as "Stomp meets Blue Man Group meets Cirque du Soleil,"  it's not just a performance; it's a high-energy, non-stop inspirational experience full of music, laughter, excitement, technical perfection, and yes, rhythm! Photo By: Moishe Levis

Karla Harris Quartet

Karla Harris Quartet (Showcase A3): Karla has been a mainstage performer for the Atlanta Jazz Festival, Sarasota Jazz Festival, Portland Jazz Festival, Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, Greenville Jazz Festival, the Oregon Coast Jazz Party, a TED Talk, and many others. In 2015, Karla was honored to receive permission from the Dave Brubeck estate to record the first-ever studio album dedicated exclusively to vocal versions of 11 Dave Brubeck compositions. Her 2019 album, Certain Elements, a suite of original music and cover tunes that joins together her influences of contemporary jazz, Latin, swing, and blues, charted on the prestigious Jazz Week chart, with three tracks being added to SiriusXM Radio’s Real Jazz channel. Karla continues to gather national recognition for a voice described by reviewers as “beautiful, powerful, yet versatile” and the artist herself as “a fearless improviser.” Last June, Karla was honored to be a recipient of the Atlanta Magazine 2024 Women Making a Mark Award for her educational outreach program called Jazz Discovery. Be prepared for an evening of powerful, emotion-tugging vocals presented through straight-ahead and contemporary jazz, blues favorites, Latin hits, and a few originals. SLOANE: A JAZZ SINGER

The Documentary Film

SLOANE: A JAZZ SINGER, the Documentary Film (Virtual Showcase 2A): In 1961, singer Carol Sloane became an overnight sensation at the famed Newport Jazz Festival. A natural interpreter of the Great American Songbook, she was hailed by Johnny Carson and the Washington Post as “the world’s greatest living jazz singer” and toured with the biggest names in the genre, including Oscar Peterson and Ella Fitzgerald. She even befriended The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, traveling with them on their first US tours. Yet today, most people have never heard of Carol Sloane. The British rock invasion swept America, and Carol’s rising star faded as quickly as it had risen, paving the way for devastating financial and emotional setbacks that would follow her the rest of her life. In this multi-"Best Documentary” award-winning film, we follow Carol Sloane at age 82 as she prepares for one final live recording at New York's iconic Birdland. Sharing rare archival footage, intimate moments with Sloane at her small apartment near Boston, and enlightening commentary from musicians and industry leaders, the film reveals a singular artist’s devotion to her passion against great odds and invites all of us to examine the meaning of success in a world where, all too frequently, "art don't pay." Photo By: Bob Bonis
