Luke Vandergriff is a visual artist, storyteller, and musical scavenger who transforms discarded objects into extraordinary musical instruments. Blending live looping, original indie folk music, and imaginative storytelling, he creates performances that inspire creativity, resilience, and wonder.

This showcase features highlights from Pepito & The Trash Cans, an uplifting musical based in Bolivia. Through handmade instruments crafted from bottles, cans, old furniture, and other repurposed materials, audiences follow Pepito's journey of discovering hope, purpose, and the life-changing power of creativity.

Equal parts concert, theater, and visual art, Pepito & The Trash Cans encourages audiences to see possibility where others see waste. Luke also offers concerts, workshops, and interactive programs for theaters, schools, libraries, museums, festivals, and community events, all celebrating imagination, sustainability, and the joy of making music together.

The Beast is an innovative and electrifying hip hop and jazz ensemble known for pushing creative boundaries through dynamic collaboration. Straight outta Durham—an emerging cultural and entrepreneurial hub of the New South—The Beast is a homegrown artistic force.

In live performance, audiences experience storytelling, improvisation, and call-and-response traditions in American music through a unique blend of TED Talk–style interactive presentation, live band energy, and breakdancing. Their flagship educational program, SANKOFA, traces a powerful journey through oral traditions—from the West African griot to coded language in spirituals, the improvisational roots of jazz—culminating in a high-energy celebration of classic hip hop. SANKOFA is both entertaining and educational for audiences of all ages. Each performance is thoughtfully adapted in tone, language, and interaction to connect with diverse audiences.

Cirque Us

Photo of Cirque Us

Cirque Us Stories follows three characters who start off set in their ways, afraid or unwilling to step outside of their comfort zone. As the story unfolds, each character has a moment of bravery where they must learn from someone who is different. By the end of the show the characters come together and learn that to succeed we must learn from those different than us, work together, and that we are strongest as a community.

Featuring hand-balancing and contortion, juggling, jump rope, character work and more, the performance features the unique use of ensemble circus work and theatrics not often found in today's circus shows, demonstrating how the work is created for and suitable for young audiences, while showing how athleticism and artistry can appeal to all ages. Ending with an inclusive workshop that demonstrates the teaching styles of our artists, it also shows how circus arts are able to unite communities.
