About the Artist: The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass is America's premier large brass ensemble. RMPBB is dedicated to the notion that music is a gift to be enjoyed by everyone. The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass is a family-owned business that had its beginnings on the streets of New Orleans. On the advice of family patriarch Ellis Marsalis, the group created a concert format that breaks the usual barriers between genres and strives to create a connection between the audience and performers. The ensemble is especially dedicated to reaching out to the world's youth and inspiring them to reach for their dreams. The group burst onto the music scene with a debut performance in Philadelphia's Kimmel Center in Verizon Hall, a residency for the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, and a special feature on the National Public Radio show, "All Things Considered." Performances by The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass range from solo trumpet to brass quintet to the full eleven-piece ensemble with percussion. Their programs include holiday concerts, mini-concerts for schools, and traditional brass concerts with optional organ or choir. Brothers on the Battlefield: The Power of Love covers music from the Civil War through the Civil Rights Movement. Represented By: Rodney Marsalis, Marsalis Mansion Artists, LLC |
About the Artist: Brian Whitted's Very Merry Christmas is where the sparkle of the season meets the soul of a showman. Acclaimed music director Brian Whitted leads a powerhouse lineup of vocals, swinging jazz, and festive classics in this high-energy holiday concert. With a full band, The Very Merries, and special guests lighting up the stage, it's the Christmas event that leaves audiences singing straight into the New Year. Produced By: Coleman Cox, Opera House Theatre Company |
About the Artist: Shifting South Asian classical elements toward pop and jazz sensibilities in a refreshing, organic way, New Jersey-based, Chennai(India)-born singer, composer, and violinist Harini "Rini" Raghavan creates her own version of Indian Jazztronica. Rini draws from her decades of formal training in Carnatic(Indian Classical) music and work at Berklee College of Music to bring together the sounds and music of her birthplace in India and her home in the US. With her powerful, often ferocious mezzo-soprano, classically-influenced violin lines, she leads her band through a dynamic, cinematic set that moves the audience through the ragas and rhythms against a background of familiar grooves and gives a fresh perspective on Indian music. Rini is a part of the 2023 Grammy-nominated record 'Shuruaat' by the Berklee Indian Ensemble, and also tours with Grammy-nominated American Patchwork Quartet with performances across the US.
